ALPHA GAMMA DELTA NEWS

The Alpha Gamma Delta (AGD) Sisters enjoyed the summer hiatus, some in northern climates, some on cruises, and some on site here in the Glen, but in October many returned and AGD ramped up our preparation for our annual Craft Fair held Nov. 8, 2025 in the HG Ballroom. The recently completed ballroom renovations were very well received; the relocation of the temporary bar to its permanent home opened much needed floor space for vendor tables, allowing 57 vendors to ply their wares, the most ever. The aisles were wider and facilitated greater ease of movement for our crafters and customers. Of tremendous assist was our own HG Safety Committee, who showed up in force and easily recognizable by their sunshine yellow T-shirts. They adeptly managed the traffic flow of the arriving vendors and directed the unloading of the vendor merchandise, along with our AGD volunteers, namely, the Sister’s hubbies! The logistics were by far the most efficient ever. No fuss, no muss, no hassles. Afterward, this expert committee received a well-deserved parking lot standing ovation for their service, along with our other temporary husband volunteers. We couldn’t have done it without y’all! Heron’s Glen crafters received table assignment priority before public sign-ups so check announcements in late summer and fall.

The AGD Sisters diligently worked through late October and early November to create 120 cheeseballs, 490 cake balls, and one gorgeous LED Lottery Tree with $100 worth of lottery tickets decorating the branches. The cake balls are always very popular and sold out. Preorders were taken for those who requested special flavors or large volumes – keep this option in mind for next year, folks! The cheeseballs, as another standard favorite, also sold out. Mary Peterson of Faliron Road won the tickets and the tree.

The AGD Craft Show serves as our primary annual fundraising initiative, with proceeds allocated to support a variety of charitable causes. With brochures, poster boards of actual Special Equestrians (SE) activities, and dedicated Sisters’ history of volunteering at SE, Special Equestrians of Fort Myers was once again spotlighted as AGD’s primary sponsored charity. This event also contributed funds to the Harry Chapin Food Bank, Hearts & Homes via our HG Veterans group, and future purchasing of hole sponsors during the Pretty in Pink Golf Tournament in March.

As the oldest Heron’s Glen sorority chapter, Alpha Gamma Delta takes pride in adhering to the basic principles of sororities. Inclusion to a sorority is by invitation only, wherein the Sisters are ever watchful of the volunteer commitment of HG women to various causes, integrity of their work, and a true neighborly interaction with HG as a whole. In that regard, invitations are extended to attend a meeting to understand what our commitments are and, dialogue with sisters to see if the Sorority is a good fit for the invitee and the Sisterhood. When it is mutually agreed, an invitation to join is extended, and our numbers grow in solidarity and love. In November, we inducted Fran Schraeder and warmly welcomed her into our Sister community. Welcome aboard, Fran!
