On Monday, February 8, the SSEP (Safety) Committee hosted the Annual Firewise Community Day Event. This yearly fundraising event aims to tend to the needs of our local firefighters, dive teams, and other emergency responders.
Mission BBQ prepared a delicious meal of pulled pork, beef brisket, baked beans, mac-n-cheese, and corn bread. SSEP volunteers cooked hamburgers, hot dogs and bratwurst on a grill provided by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Vendors who provided timely information to our residents included the Amateur Radio Club, United Way, Lee Health, Mosquito Control, North Fort Myers Fire Department and Dive team, Lee County Sheriff Department, Herons Glen CERT, Lee County EMS, Local 1826, and new this year the Canine Communication Foundation of Florida with their adorable dogs.
CERT Team members from local communities, as well as our Herons Glen residents were able to enjoy a beautiful day of food and fun. Numerous people tried their luck at the raffle which included many items from local restaurants, stores, beauty establishments, golf items and more.
Of course ice cream was provided, free of charge, by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Through the efforts of this hard-working committee and their volunteers, we were able to collect $8,873 to be donated.
The SSEP Committee would like to thank our residents for their continued support.
