Alpha Delta Mu Reaches Out To Help Support Local Veterans in Need

  • May 2026
  • EILEEN MAFFEI, HERONS GLEN

At their February monthly meeting, the sisters of Alpha Delta Mu Sorority participated in an informative presentation and discussion period focused on a local non-profit organization, Canines for Heroes. This presentation helped sorority members to broaden their knowledge and understanding of the needs of veterans in our local communities. Canines for Heroes is a Sarasota based non-profit organization that helps to provide trained service dogs to veterans and those who have undergone traumatic life experiences. The service dogs are trained to respond to both physical and emotional cues, which helps their handlers to regain confidence and a sense of safety.

The sisters of the Alpha Delta Mu Sorority donated $1,000 to this worthy organization so that Canines for Heroes could further their efforts to improve the quality of life for many veterans. A portion of those funds will benefit Top Tier K9 in Bradenton and their trainer, Julie Madison, who provides a 4 – 6 week “Stay and Train” program to work intensively with service dogs and their new veteran handlers.

The members of Alpha Delta Mu would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to the residents of Herons Glen for participating in their fund-raising activities throughout the year. Through your generosity, we have been able to make meaningful contributions totaling approximately $15,000 to numerous local veterans’ groups, our Fort Myers community schools, food banks, outreach programs, and breast cancer awareness activities.
