This month’s Grounds Corner is a potpourri of various topics. Some of these you may already know. Since we have had 56 houses sold in the Glen so far this year, some items may be worth restating.
Yard Waste at the curb: The Florida law and the revised HOA Grounds landscape standards allow trash, including yard waste, to be placed at the curb 24 hours before pick-up. That would be Monday morning. Trash containers must be brought in within 24 hours after pick-up. Unfortunately, we are seeing yard waste sitting on the curb for days before the scheduled pick-up. Please help keep our community beautiful by being vigilant in putting out your trash.
Plastic borders for rocks: Black plastic edging is allowed as a border for landscape beds with rocks. We have seen cases where the plastic has been cut through or sunk into the ground and no longer visible. If you are considering using plastic edging for rock beds, you may be wise to use a more substantial material for the border.
Weed control: The summer rain, heat, and sun are great for helping plants grow. That includes the weeds. You may find it helpful to use mulch to help control unwanted vegetation. If you use a landscaper or house-watcher while away for the summer, be sure they are spraying the weeds in the beds as well as driveways and walkways.
There is no Grounds Committee meeting in August. If you have an emergency landscape request (ex: a diseased or dead tree needing immediate removal), please contact the HOA office.
Stay cool and enjoy your summer plans and travels.
